Welcome

Welcome to PoetsWest @ The Creekside, a site developed to promote poetry and poets in the Great Northwest.

In partnership with PoetsWest, a nonprofit membership organization based in Seattle, The Creekside, a Merrill Gardens Retirement Community, has opened its doors to offer a premier venue for poetry readings at 7:00pm on the third Wednesday of each month. The readings feature one (or occasionally two) poets plus a very generously timed open mic.

While many venues seem to have just poets-reading-to-poets, The Creekside has a general audience made up of senior citizens and their families as well as the poets in attendance.

Facilities and refreshments are provided courtesy of The Creekside, a Merrill Gardens Retirement Community, in Woodinville, Washington.

Notes for Readers

A few notes for poets reading at The Creekside:

  • Our audiences prefer family-oriented poetry. [We meet in a venue where attendees may range from youngsters (grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.) to centenarians.]
  • Our audiences like to be entertained, enlightened, and energized by presentations which, while they may differ, do respect our individual and diverse views of politics, persuasion, and purpose.
  • Our audiences admire great poetry, whether traditional, modern, blank, free, or prose…you won’t be booed but you may be cheered!
  • And finally, a marketing table is available to display your publications as well as audio-visual and promotional materials.
